bill-simmons.jpegFor several years I have cared less about who wins the Super Bowl. The game for me was more of a chance to get together with friends or unfortunately to work. This year I again don’t care for either of the teams in the game, but my hatred for Boston sports is reaching new heights. Actually I think I have more of a problem with the typical Bah-stun fan than any of the teams or players. So when I read got my January 28th edition of ESPN the Magazine, I nearly choked on my own vomit.

Everyone’s favorite national sports writer Boston homer Bill Simmons was in rare form. I was curious how Simmons would respond to Clemens’ HGH use err, allegations. I figured high fives were coming, perhaps a few witty retorts and a Real World reference was in my future. What I got was nothing short of an indictment of the typical Boston fan.

If you haven’t read the piece, you can find it here. If you want to be spared like seven paragraphs of chowder and Sam Adams filled Boston nostalgia, here’s the sickening part-

But here’s what we won’t figure out: how to reconcile our own memories with everything we know now, after all these revelations. There’s no evidence that Clemens cheated in Boston, but he played there with Jose Canseco in ’96, and his performance spiked sharply during a specific period when he couldn’t stay healthy and needed a performance boost. If Clemens cheated in ’98 and beyond — and it sure seems like he did — how do we know he was clean for that Detroit game?

That Detroit game he mentions was Roger’s 20 strikeout performance in his last year in Boston. The article is about how Roger Clemens has ruined a memory of his by his HGH use. That’s right. Bill’s first instinct is Roger ruined a good memory I had. What an unbelievably selfish, and typically Boston attitude. Sorry Bill and the rest of your minions that the world stopped revolving around you for moment. We’ll try to correct that. Yeah, he tries to tie the article to the larger sports world at the end…because of course he isn’t employed directly by a Boston entity anymore. Hmmm, or is he?

So this year, I shall be rooting for the Giants. Not that you care Boston, I understand that.
